WSP™ Work Design Technology

Work Design Process for Organizational Shifts

Structural shifts accelerate as organizations experience major changes such as mergers, divestitures and product start-ups. New work requirements emerge, old requirements disappear, and functions are redistributed. The WorkStyle Patterns® Work Design Process provides the technology to assess and direct work changes. This process facilitates major breakthroughs in how to prepare for and implement position, team, function and organizational design.

WorkStyle Work Design Flow

Seven Phases

There are seven distinct phases of WorkStyle Work Design outlined in an eight-chapter process guide. Movement through any one phase may be short and speedy or extensive and deliberate, depending upon the extent of work and organizational variables. The following seven phases of WorkStyle Work Design are custom-tailored to the needs of the organization:

  1. Explore the need
  2. Prepare the organization
  3. Conduct the IS session to create a baseline
  4. Coordinate between sessions for participant learnings and preparation
  5. Conduct the “SHOULD” (future state of the organization) session
  6. Integrate and implement the Work Alignment Plan
  7. Sustain work alignment through learning transfer.

McFletcher consultants partner with the organization’s certified WSP™ Inventory facilitator(s) – internal human resource facilitators, OE consultants or line managers – to conduct a prototype project in a learning transfer process. This process equips the internal facilitator(s) and the client organization to assume responsibility for their own change strategies and outcomes. This process is conducted in three steps with the internal WSP™ certified facilitators:

  1. The first work design session is conducted by McFletcher consultants with the internal facilitators observing and documenting.
  2. The second session is conducted jointly with internal WSP™ certified facilitators and McFletcher consultants.
  3. The third session is conducted by the internal facilitators with observation and coaching by McFletcher consultants. Other members of the organization receive training as well by providing support through co-facilitation and documentation.
