Learning Transfer for ‘how and what’ of today’s work

Structural shifts accelerate as organizations experience major changes such as mergers, divestitures and product start-ups. New work requirements emerge, old requirements disappear, and functions are redistributed. The WorkStyle Work Design Process provides the technology to assess and direct work changes. This process facilitates major breakthroughs in how to prepare for and implement position, team, function and organizational design.

In the North American workplace, the differences between “approach to work” and “content of the work” fail to be recognized. For quicker response and better quality, work needs to be designed taking into account the flow of work versus only the parts of work.

McFletcher’s WorkStyle Patterns® research and consulting uniquely measure both the approach to work (how) and the content of the work (what). WorkStyle Processes and Inventories determine how individuals prefer to work, what they are actually doing and what their organizations and customers expect from them.

The results of the WorkStyle Work Design process are linked to the needs and realities within an organization. A Work Design Team is comprised of those who do the work and customers of the work. McFletcher conducts a prototype project with the team in a learning transfer process. Other members of the organization receive training as well by providing support through facilitation and documentation. WSP™ Database information compares work requirements within the organization as well as with industry profession norms.

Typically, the design team’s discussions produce invaluable insights into the dynamics of current or emerging work. These are captured in a way that is useful for implementation after the team has finished.

Live situations are examined as a part of the gap analysis and problems solving aspects of the work culture audit.
